What this document is
Proof you have enough Japanese for daily life and work. JFT-Basic is computer-based and offered many times a year in both Vietnam and Japan; the JLPT runs only twice a year, so most people take JFT-Basic.
What it must show
- JFT-Basic: A2 level (pass)
- or JLPT N4 / N3 / N2 / N1
- or the certificate of successful completion of Technical Intern Training (ii) (waiver)
- Name matches your passport
Where to get it
JFT-Basic: the Japan Foundation (jfstandard.jp). JLPT: jlpt.jp. Lost it? Request a reissue from the organiser.
How to get it
- Photograph/scan the original certificate or score report
- Not taken it? Register for JFT-Basic (CBT, many sittings)
- Former trainee? Request the completion certificate from your old supervising organisation
Notes
The Technical Intern Training (ii) waiver applies only when the trainee occupation MATCHES the specified field you're moving into — a mismatch means taking both exams.
